SimCity developers and public relations reps have made it quite clear they have no intention of making the game available for offline play. However, the modding community has done just that by altering two lines of code in the package files.
NeoGaf member zomgbbqftw posted a very simple how-to on the board detailing how you remove the timer to play offline. Here is the code:
kNoRepeatNetworkAlertSeconds : 15,kNetDownForceQuitAfterMinutes : 20,
Simply remove the lines, and you play offline.
It should be noted that by altering the lines in the package file you will not be able to save a game locally, but GamingBlend highlighted a modder named Azzer, who told Rock, Paper, Shotgun that ‘making a UI template and a redirection for local hard-drive saves is entirely possible and not that hard to do.’ So far the local save hasn’t materialized, but with all the frustration by the SimCitycommunity, we’re sure a fix will be revealed in the near future.
Leave it up to the modders to make the game we wanted, and the one we deserved.
