Sony have submitted a trademark application for a service called “PlayStation TV”. The trademark is filed as a service mark, and had actually been applied for in the past.
The year was 2006 when Sony first expressed interest in this trademark and now, seven years later, they are after it again.
The “PlayStation TV” service could really be anything. Maybe something similar in style to Netflix or HBOGo, which would be exclusive to PlayStation devices. Perhaps the service will be something a little more impressive and surprising, as Sony have said that they still have a few things to reveal before launch.
The application was filed on June 26th of this year, which is very recent indeed.
It remains to be seen as to what exactly Sony are up to. It will be interesting to see what they have up their sleeves, especially when considering just how destructive the notion of TV on consoles has been this year.
Of course Sony may just sit on this trademark. There is nothing to say that they will act upon it, or even mention it.
What do you think the “PlayStation TV” service will offer?
