The first female soldier is appearing in the Battlefield 4 campaign when it releases in just under a month, and they could well be coming to multiplayer as well.
In a recent chat with OXM, Patrick Bach said that they will be coming but he doesn’t know when they will be able to do it.
Yes, but we don’t know when we can do that. We have been talking about it quite a lot. We’ve been looking at how much it’s worth, compared to how much we’d have to sacrifice.
Bach then went on to say that the process for adding a female character is “quite complicated” and that it isn’t just about creating the character models.
Because it’s quite complicated, It’s not just [creating] the actual character models, it’s all the voice-over work. We have hundreds of thousands of lines that would need to be duplicated, because even now we’re cheating quite a lot – we have random male voices, and then you have to multiply that by two. If we do it, we’ll do it right, not just to tick a box or something.
With the addition of female soldiers to the multiplayer of the upcoming Call of Duty: Ghosts I’m sure a lot of people will be thinking that Battlefield 4 is lagging behind or something or that DICE and EA are simply jumping onto the bandwagon that Call of Duty has created.
We will have to wait and see how the female characters are in Call of Duty: Ghosts and whether or not they have been added just for the sake of it.
