There is no doubt DICE is looking to push the consoles and PCs to their limits in terms visuals and player count. However, the player count on consoles it lower compared to PC and DICE has explained why.
According to brand manager, Kevin O’Leary, Battlefield 3 is a multi-platform game and DICE wants the best possible experience on all machines.
We want to make sure that every platform that we have the game out on, it’s the best possible experience for that platform.
He added that 24 players are the maximum number that consoles can handle as the tests have revealed.
On console we’ve made the decision to go 24 players on multiplayer because it’s the sweet spot. We’ve seen from telemetry and testing and so forth – that’s what we know works well for our consumers and our players.
Battlefield 3 is a first-person action shooter in development at DICE. The game will launch for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
