The Xbox One reveal ended with a showing of Call of Duty: Ghosts‘ development process, and the new ideas that went into the game.
One feature Infinity Ward boasted about was the fish AI, with Mark Rubin stating: “We have fish, that move out of the way when you get close to them.”
Many, many people picked up on this and criticised the hell out of it. The most popular criticism being one fan’s comparison to the fish AI seen in Super Mario 64, which was released in 1996.
In an interview with Machinima at E3, Mark Rubin again spoke about Call of Duty: Ghosts’ fish AI. This time however, he claimed that it was all just a big joke:
It’s just fish, it’s an effect. It’s not a big deal. It’s not even new… I love that the internet picked up on it. I love that they picked up on Nintendo 64′s Mario, and showed that. That was awesome. That was so exactly what I wanted out of that, so thank you guys. Thank you internet.
I guess Rubin fooled us all! What a great joke…
