Well, the numbers are in and it seems Microsoft has done what everyone expect they’d do – sell 1 million units of their Xbox One console on launch day. Yet, there is a small disclaimer to that sales figure – they needed an additional 11 countries to do it. When the PS4 launched earlier this month, it launched only in the US and Canada, while the Xbox One has launched in not only North America, but also Australia, Austria, Brazil, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Spain, the U.K., and New Zealand.
While the sales numbers are impressive and put the next-gen (this gen?) consoles on equal footing in regards to total sales, keep in mind the PS4 will release in the U.K. and Europe next week. (Writer’s Note: It launches in Singapore on December 18 and we’ll be covering the midnight launch exclusively here at Pixel Enemy – stay tuned)
At this point, there isn’t much we can say about the sales figures, particularly as Microsoft claims the units are sold out saying, “Xbox One is now sold out at most retailers. We are working to replenish stock as fast as possible to meet the unprecedented demand from our customers.” We can’t be certain what the truth on the “sold out” situation is as some Redditors claim they can walk into stores and purchase them still.
How about it Pixel Nation? Are these sales figures anything can predict anything with? We all know Microsoft has taken a virtual beating over their Xbox One launch and the butthurt has flowed since E3. Should Microsoft be concerned?
