It’s been no secret that the PlayStation 4 has had a rather easier time in comparison to Microsoft’s Xbox One.
While most people assumed Sony was leading the race against pre-orders, we didn’t exactly know by how much.
Over on VGChartz, they’ve now posted what they claim is data they’ve gathered regarding the U.S.pre-order numbers for both the PS4 and Xbox One, which is said to be accurate up to August 24, 2013.
To date, the PS4 is leading the Xbox One pre-orders by a ratio of 1.7:1, with 600,000 units pre-ordered so far; this is considerably higher compared to E3 where there were only 75,000 pre-orders. The Xbox One currently has 350,000 pre-orders, which is also up since E3 where it only had 45,000pre-orders.
Keep in mind that these numbers represent U.S. only, and not worldwide.
In related news, the data-tracking site also listed what the most pre-ordered game is on both platforms and in a rather surprising twist, Battlefield 4 is beating out Call of Duty: Ghosts on the PS4 list. On the Xbox One front, it’s the other way around, with Ghosts having over a 100,000 unit lead against BF4.
Here’s the complete software pre-orders list:
PlayStation 4 – Top 10 Pre-orders
1. Battlefield 4 – 246,9652. Call of Duty: Ghosts – 240,0903. Killzone: Shadow Fall – 221,7104. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – 160,6375. Watch Dogs – 118,3156. Madden NFL 25 – 65,1237. Destiny – 44,0188. NBA 2K14 – 43,4309. Knack – 40,98210. FIFA Soccer 14 – 35,095
Xbox One – Top 10 Pre-orders
1. Call of Duty: Ghosts – 229,6282. Battlefield 4 – 125,3683. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – 104,9804. Watch Dogs – 69,1525. Dead Rising 3 – 61,2546. Ryse: Son of Rome – 57,9627. Forza Motorsport 5 – 56,2018. Madden NFL 25 – 43,1679. Destiny – 35,62710. Titanfall – 27,956
If the list above is accurate, what could be the most surprising stat is Titanfall sitting at number 10 with only 27,956 pre-orders to date. One would assume it’d be one of the highest pre-ordered game in the Xbox One’s line-up since it is “exclusive,” and is made by ex-Call of Duty creators Respawn.
While it’s easy to look at these numbers and proclaim one brand is beating the other, let’s wait until we have the official sales data from Sony, Microsoft themselves; since, y’know, that’s sure to be 100 percent more accurate.
Do you think the numbers listed above are accurate? If not, what do you think the proper breakdown is?
The P.E. Perspective:
The PS4 and Sony is certainly being seen nowadays as the better choice among gamers and even industry people, but has that really manifested itself with an impressive 1.7:1 advantage over the Xbox One? Sure. it’s fun to debate about who’s winning and whatnot, but I’d rather we wait until the actual consoles are here, and for the hardware makers to release their official sales figures before judging “who won.”
