Sony head of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida loves From Software’s Demon’s Souls, and he would like to see more of the game on PlayStation platforms.
In an interview with Polygon, Shuhei said, “I love the team, I love the game and yeah, I’d really like to see more. But that’s all that I will say.”
Demon’s Souls was published by Sony in Japan, but the company refused to release it elsewhere. Atlus and Namco Bandai swooped in and published the game in North America and Europe, an opportunity that Shuhei said Sony “dropped the ball” on.
Sony still owns the rights to the Demon’s Souls intellectual property.
When Polygon asked if he could see the game return on PlayStation platforms with a new developer, Shuhei said, “That’s a great question, but because of the attention that will get, I choose not to answer.”
From Software’s Souls series, known for its brutal difficulty, has garnered a cult following. Dedicated players continue to replay and discuss the games on Reddit and other message boards.
From Software’s Dark Souls 2, the sequel to Dark Souls, will be available on PlayStation 3 in March 2014. The release date comes after the slated PlayStation 4 release date, but the game hasn’t been announced for next-generation consoles.
The game will also be available on Xbox 360 and Windows PC.
