During last night’s PlayStation 4 reveal event, Media Molecule, the developers behind the Little Big Planet series and the upcoming Tearaway, were onstage demoing their new PlayStation Move title for the PS4. The title showed them sculpting creations and then using these said creations in “dream sequences.” The dream sequence shown was a bunch of sculpted like characters rocking away as a group using PS Move controllers. It was pretty neat stuff and showed one way the PS Move will be used in conjunction with the PS4.
However, Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida has come out and said that, “the PlayStation 4 doesn’t support DualShock 3.”
It’s still unclear if the lack of DualShock 3 compatibility with the PS4 is due to technical limitations or because with the new set of system specifications and technology (sharing, LED light bar, Audio port, and front touch pad) the DualShock 3 will just not be capable of utilizing the PlayStation 4′s feature set.
This is a shame for anybody who has invested in multiple DualShock 3 controllers. Knowing that the PS4 will not be natively backwards compatible with PS3 games and now knowing that DualShock 3 controllers will not work; You might want to keep that PS3 around somewhere during launch so you can continue to play all your PS3 classics.
