Battlefield players are already excited to know that the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC versions of Battlefield 4 will run at 60 frames per second. According to Battlefield executive producer Patrick Bach, that was a priority for DICE from day one:
We have a very complicated game with a lot of moving parts. We had to decide, yes, we will do this in 60fps. Everything else is secondary. We know the game is great when you have 64 players and destruction, and if we could get what we had on PC for a long time in your living room with a pad, wouldn’t that be amazing? That’s what we’re aiming for.
In addition to 60fps, thanks to the extra power granted by the next-generation consoles, DICE increased the online multiplayer headcount to 64 to match the PC version. Unfortunately, if you get the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 version of Battlefield 4, the player count is limited to 24:
They [next-gen console players] will experience another level of chaos they haven’t seen before,” Bach said. “12 versus 12, you can keep track of quite a few people, but only so many. When you get to 32 versus 32, that’s when it becomes hard to keep track of the other team, when it feels like there are more things going on than just around me and what I can control.
According to Bach, thanks to the 60fps and 64-player multiplayer, next-generation players will finally get “the full Battlefield experience.” For PC and next-gen console players, it begins to feel like a “proper war,” since players can “choose to go to this other fight rather than the fight I’m just in.”
For Battlefield console players, this could be incentive to upgrade to the Xbox One or PlayStation 4. What say you?
