In quite likely the most “duh” news of the day, DICE has confirmed that their upcoming shooter, Battlefield 4, won’t see the light of day on Nintendo’s Wii U.
Speaking to Videogamer, creative director Lars Gustavsson explained their reasoning as “Sometimes, at least for us, it’s focus on what you do well and what you know well, and ensure that you deliver something good than trying a bit too much, stretching yourself too thin and risking it.”
In more BF4 news, Gustavsson has also shot down rumors that female soldiers will be playable in Battlefield 4. Sadly, this is applies for both the single-player campaign, and multiplayer.
I can already now say that you won’t be able to play [as a] female in multiplayer…When it comes to single-player, [in Battlefield 3] you shuffled around numerous characters as you played and it was more about the geopolitical events. This time around, everything from direction to actors, to how we built the engine to deliver the human experience and connection to these digital actors, we’ve also chosen to go for one main character that you play, and with that, that is not a woman, as you might have noticed.
Don’t think that Gustavsson or DICE are sexists though, as Lars states, “I have the deepest respect for the men and the women who choose to do military service. It’s not that anyone is better or worse. It’s definitely a valid question that we asked ourselves.”
Female soldiers was one of the rumors in last year’s big Battlefield 4 “leak.” Unfortunately for female Battlefield fans or those who want to play as female avatars, that dream will not be realized in Battlefield 4.
Is this a big concern for you or were you expecting it all along? For Wii U owners, seeing as Black Ops 2 saw a release on that platform, were you disappointed that EA and DICE won’t be releasing BF4 on the Wii U?
