Twitch SDK allows streaming on other platforms

Authored by

Twitch streaming functionality is tied to the software, not the hardware, as Microsoft’s partnership with the company for the Xbox One might appear, meaning game developers can integrate it into their games on any platform using the software development kit.

Speaking to Joystiq, Twitch VP of Marketing Matthew DiPietro said Twitch streaming capabilities can be built into any game, and the company is currently pursuing developers to do so.

DiPietro said the current agreement with Microsoft doesn’t inhibit Twitch integration from appearing on other platforms, like PlayStation 4.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 lets users stream through Twitch, and Company of Heroes 2 will do the same when it launches later this month.

Sony partnered with uStream, another streaming service, to allow users to stream their games on PlayStation 4.
