Sony trademarks “Psygnosis,” could mark studio’s return

Eagle-eyed N4G user ixYi noted that Sony Computer Entertainment Europe recently filed a trademark for “Psygnosis.”
For those who might not remember, Psygnosis was a Liverpool-based studio that was eventually acquired by Sony and, after its full integration within Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, was renamed SCE Studio Liverpool. The studio was best known for the Lemmings, Wipeout, and Formula One series. Unfortunately, Studio Liverpool was shuttered in 2012, though the site itself is still in operation.
While filing trademarks doesn’t necessarily mean anything yet, we could see the return of the closed studio sometime in the future. As with all trademarks, however, we’ll have to wait and see if this turns into anything concrete.
