Rumor: Grand Theft Auto Online ‘cash cards’ allow players to purchase in-game money

Authored by

Grand Theft Auto Online could allow players to purchase in-game money with real money, Reddit user 1880 has found in the game’s data files.

Currently, the game has a “Store” option in the menu, but when selected, nothing is available. The game references a specific file that includes descriptions of purchasable “Cash Cards”.

One of the card descriptions reads:

Cash is king in this town. Solve your money problems and help get what you want across Los Santos and Blaine County with the purchase of cash packs for Grand Theft Auto Online. All purchased cash is automatically deposited into your character’s bank account. Spend wisely, cash therapy is fleeting.

The cards come in multiple in-game amounts: $100,000, $200,000, $500,000, and $1,250,000. If true, it’s unclear how much Rockstar would charge for each card.

Each card has an image associated with it, which are viewable here.

Grand Theft Auto Online launches October 1 for those who have purchased Grand Theft Auto 5.

  1. I’m not bothered by this. R* have created an Online persistent world which you’ll need to put time into to rake in some big bucks. For those on smaller schedules who just want to jump in and mess around this is a good idea. But for other people, like me, with quite a bit of spare time, earning the money seems funner to me!

Besides if someone buys the money and has it in their wallet, it’s one accurate bullet then that money is mine.
