Pixel Enemy’s Steam Summer Sale Guide – Day 6
Authored by Rob Newberry
Day 6 of the Steam Summer Sale brings some Legendary titles, and while you May Cry at the fact that your bank account is becoming a Rising Storm, it’s no need to let Sleeping Dogs lie. Not sure which games to buy? Let us help you avoid the Crysis and give you a hand before your System goes into Shock.
I don’t see any deals that stand out today, but still have a few recommendations to make. System Shock 2 is a great game if you still haven’t played it. It’s up for sale for $2.49. I would also recommend Sleeping Dogs, which is available for $6.24. Released last August, the game is a good time-filler if you’re looking for something GTA-ish. Just don’t expect the world.
Assassin’s Creed III is available for a decent price of $23.99 in the flash sale. While I don’t think this installment in the series was as good as its predecessors, it’s a gorgeous game with some original ideas. If you’ve still got some money to splash, give it a try!
Day six of the Steam Summer Sale is upon us…..and it’s mildly mediocre at best. While I don’t see too many things from today’s sale that interest me, I still think there are a few gems to be had.
The first of the these being Sleeping Dogs. For $6.24 you’re getting and outrageously awesome open-world game set in the seedy Hong Kong underbelly. It’s fun, it’s over the top, and it’s easily worth the $6.24. Also check out Mark of the Ninja by Klei Entertainment (the team that made Shank, Don’t Starve). It’s a fantastic stealth game and definitely worth the $3.74.
Another game I would recommend is Alan Wake. Alan Wake became of of my favorite games after it was released. I remember renting it, beating it, and then thinking to myself that I had to own it. It’s on sale today for $3.00. I would recommend shelling out the extra .50 cents and getting the Collectors Edition that gives you both pieces of downloadable content. They’re good and help to expand the story.
Let’s get the obvious ones out of the way. Alan Wake, Mark of the Ninja, DMC (Devil May Cry), and System Shock 2 (now with trading cards!) are all great games, in that order.
But the real allure for today’s Steam sale is Rising Storm, a multiplayer, first-person shooter simulation set in World War 2 that began as a mod for Red Orchestra 2. I haven’t played it yet. Actually, not enough people have played it yet from what I’ve heard and read. Rising Storm is a mechanical representation of World War 2 infantry battles, intentionally unbalanced (not exactly how you think) like the real war itself.
I hear it’s devastating, horrible, frightening, and impactful in ways games like Call of Duty can’t pull off. It doesn’t even display a kill/death ratio because it wants you to think like an army. Death isn’t a failure if it caused your assailant to overlook your buddies behind you. I’m excited to play something fresh, and in these summer lulls, you might be too.
There are a few titles that are worth picking up in today’s Daily Deals, which to be honest aren’t so impressive. However, if you don’t have Sleeping Dogs, you should definitely pick it up for $6.24. It’s a great FPS/Fighter that takes place in Hong Kong, and has elements of GTA and Mafia. Certainly worth the price.
Lastly, I’d say the best deal of the day is Mark of the Ninja, an outstanding little and as Espo mentioned above, is made by the same team that brought us Shank and Don’t Starve. If you like the pace of games like Super Meat Boy and Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, this one is for you. It has a Metacritic store of 91/100 also, so spending $3.74 is totally worth what you’ll get in return.
As always, stay tuned for tomorrow’s Daily Deals and recommendations for votes and flash sales.
