Oculus Rift gets a run on the Death Star trench
Authored by Rob Newberry
I suppose it really was just a matter of time. Another cool addition to simulators and games for the Oculus Rift has hit the interwebs, and while we don’t have any details just yet, it’s sure to be a winner. In the video below, you can see someone has put together a Death Star trench run, which was made popular in the original 1977 landmark film by George Lucas.
Programmed in Unity (like so many other cool Rift simulators), the footage contains classic lines from the film, the expected ‘boops’ and ‘beeps’ by R2D2 and some pretty neat touches like arches and obstacles to navigate through. It’s hard to tell from the footage if the obstacles are collision sensitive or no clip, but for a project in development, it looks great.
Unity3D has been instrumental in moving the Oculus Rift forward as Rift developers were given four month Unity Pro licenses earlier this year.
Stay tuned for more information as it comes to us. In the meantime, you can read our hands on with the Oculus Rift here, and our Singapore office just received another Rift for trial – if we get our hands on this Death Star trench run – we’ll be sure to let you know.
