Oculus Rift gets a run on the Death Star trench

Authored by

deathstarI suppose it really was just a matter of time. Another cool addition to simulators and games for the Oculus Rift has hit the interwebs, and while we don’t have any details just yet, it’s sure to be a winner. In the video below, you can see someone has put together a Death Star trench run, which was made popular in the original 1977 landmark film by George Lucas.

Programmed in Unity (like so many other cool Rift simulators), the footage contains classic lines from the film, the expected ‘boops’ and ‘beeps’ by R2D2 and some pretty neat touches like arches and obstacles to navigate through. It’s hard to tell from the footage if the obstacles are collision sensitive or no clip, but for a project in development, it looks great.

Unity3D has been instrumental in moving the Oculus Rift forward as Rift developers were given four month Unity Pro licenses earlier this year.

Stay tuned for more information as it comes to us. In the meantime, you can read our hands on with the Oculus Rift here, and our Singapore office just received another Rift for trial – if we get our hands on this Death Star trench run – we’ll be sure to let you know.

I cannot get to the blog by typing in the original address, but I can by following the link. I want this thing permanently deleted. Can anyone tell me how to do that?.

  6. Hi All,. . I am creating a website for overseas students who are in Australia and those who are thinking of applying a student visa to Australia. (fyi, website will be in the local language).. . I have found a PDF file on the Australian Embassy website advising how to apply those main visas and application procedure, etc. I think this info is very useful to for many people and I want to make this info available on my website. Copyright is the only concerned at the moment.. . If I just copy the whole article “without” making any amendments, including make sure to reference all details where it from etc plus the link to the Australian embassy website. . . Would this be illegal?. . Many thanks..
