Microsoft acquires Pando, next-gen Xbox expected in June

Microsoft have just bought Pando, for $11million. Pando is basically a torrent app that nobody likes.
The dedicated fans at NeoGaf uncovered this from Calcalist, sadly we’re relying on google translate but here goes:
“Fendo developed a file transfer service between P2P users, and made it the means of distribution based cloud service for games, video and software content giants, while active large file transfer service for consumers and businesses. The purchase was made in part to give Microsoft an advantage in sharing media files for the launch of the new Xbox gaming console is expected in June, and to compete with Sony, who revealed last month its future media console PlayStation 4. “
Calcalist is a business magazine, so they’re not likely to try churn out rumours just for fan boy hits.
The article then went on to say
“More than 30 million users have installed the software Fendo File Transfer, which allows sending free files size up to 1 GB – SATA. The clients of Fendo one of American television network NBC Universal, which uses its own technology to deliver HD TV PC.
In recent years the gaming industry has become the biggest client of Fendo, thanks to technology that allows distribution of games with a volume of installation files over 1 GB – SATA. Its customers include Nexon, Riot Games, Turbine, Gala-Net and LevelUp.”
This is getting interesting, what do you think of a launch in June? Too soon?
June would be great, let early adopters buy it and work out the kinks before the fall FPS releases!
My guess is that it’s talking about a June announcement about the console, aka E3. The next xBox will not be available to buy in June.

We heard this rumor before and I’m guessing that’s why Sony performed that underwhelming February 20th conference. Sony are quaking in their boots.

Yeah, but SEGA was already beyond saving when they did. They were having huge problems after the Megadrive. The Saturn was the console that did them in before they released the DreamCast.

It’s true, they are going Apple style and it is an excellent strategy! Release at the same time of the E3 announcement, like they did with the 360 slim.
This rumor already surfaced way back in January (VGleaks) and it’s probably also the reason why Sony suddenly rushed a PS4 conference where they basically didn’t have anything and updated their console specs to 8GB RAM, when none of their dev kits had it, to be on par with the next Xbox and thus try and get hype for the PS4 instead of the next Xbox. They failed miserably and the conference was a joke.
MS are also going to sell it well below the price of the PS4 though and with a lot more features out of the box (with only slightly lower specs though). With al the subs and contracts they have with the media now and more first party studios, next gen Sony PlayStation is going to be destroyed!
Yeah, tapeout was confirmed in January by them, so the announcement in April and the subsequent release @ E3 is looking very very likely.
ok, Microsoft do not have more 1st party studios working on games that’s firstly, secondly the vast majority of gamers will not buy an expensive device like this to play games, when it’s main emphasis is on other media, other media a SMART TV can support and have many of the same features out of the box. Secondly if you followed any general scientific news todo with techology for computers which I’ll assume you don’t then you’d know that in early december/late novemember Microsoft were having issues with transistors on one of their new chips for an unannounced unnamed device. And were looking for a different material to have it manufactured from frantically as they needed it for production starting late December they couldn’t miss. (I think this article was in new scientist but I could easily be mistaken there) Now as it’s a pretty safe assumption that this is the new xbox as Microsoft rarely have any involvement in the development of new chips ( and it was mentioned the chip was apparently a GPU) such as those. Basically to cut myself short it’s highly, highly unlikely Microsoft would have enough stock to pull a move like that + the last Company to do such a thing for a new console generation was Sega, it makes you look somewhat afraid of your competition and as though you’re in a hurry, no Microsoft want time to build up hype nd then get money for promoting food too
The xbox 360 slim was announced at e3 and released the next week, the attendants got it early for free.
I think you need to check the Wiki, MS now has 21 games studios working on GAMES versus 13 for Sony who had a record closure of first party studios this gen. The yield problems you describe from December were also fixed in January, so 4 month of production could give them a very healthy stock for launch and enough hype after an April announcement.
Sony’s going down if all of this is true though, there will be no way for Sony to recouperate as they are already on the brink financially.
I’ll wait 18 months and let everyone else beta test this one, I don’t trust their build quality one bit.

Judging by the posts, it’s clear which side is commenting. Ok, if they do decide to drop in June then what games are going to be available. I’m talking about 3rd party here. All the heavy hitters are coming out in the fall. Plus, we haven’t seen any sports titles what so ever. Do you people really think launch titles are going to be ready by E3? We haven’t even seen playable next gen games yet. I’m talking about demos that the public can play. Yall need to take the fanboy goggles off and come back to reality. Plus, this company was just bought and you really think the services are going to be ready Day 1 in June. Welcome to Lala land. Microsft has 18 first party studios that work on games and over 26 total. With 8 of them working on “gaming technology” half of those 18 game studios are Kinect focused games studios. Sony has 16 First party studios that work solely on core games with 2-3 that work on Move stuff. So though technically you may be right on the number but the last I checked these are suppose to be gaming consoles. People buy these to play games. Microsoft is clearly going in a different direction by offering a home entertainment box that can also play some casual games. Not what I would consider a gaming console – and not that their wrong or the people who are devoted to them – to each is own. Playstaion being “destroyed” as you put it – I think will ultimately be decided by the gaming community. Microsoft may sell 100 million boxes but it will be to a altogether separate consumer base. Sony will win the “Gaming war” this generation – make no mistake – they have the games and also offer the apps. Most importantly in that order. Unlike Microsoft who is focusing their new console on apps first gaming second. It will be hard to “destroy” something that offers true hardcore gaming experiences with a TV tuner and Skype as your focal point.

Sony actually has 15, but like they say Quanitity isn’t always the best Quality. Sony’s 1st party games are: More robust, diverse, and better in terms of gameplay/graphics and fun factor. The main games Microsoft’s 1st party devs are focusing on are Kinect games and XBLA games. So though they may have “more” they don’t necessary pump out triple a games unlike all of Sony’s 1st party devs.

i cant wait for sonys next piece of shit… and as for the flame war if you pay for something that works for you than that should be your choice, i mean people pay for cable and not everybody is familiar with torrent sites for illegal movies and thats millions of people, thats a lot of money being made. so if sony doesnt like money they might as well give the console away for free too. its kinda like linux vs microsoft. ones free one you pay for, the free one nobody uses it, the other is paid for and it runs all your favorite programs, apps, pc games and you get your torrents too to name a few things that work when you have a paid service. as far as exclusives go sony pays for them too. anything funded to keep on their console is paid for… i mean i do not see any of the exclusives i grew up with in my PS years on the ps3.

From the comment war below, I can already see that people are going to buy the new xbox because defending it makes them happy. I have no reason to give my support to Microsoft’s Xbox anymore. I have to be honest though, I do have an Xbox 360 with the free Kinect and I have spent money on a gold membership in the past just to play online with my friends. But lately it seems as if Microsoft has run out of ideas on how to keep their customers coming. They do seem to be really proud of their COD community but you can pretty much see that on any other platform. Then releasing a Halo 4 just makes them look almost desperate for any type of income. Right now PC gaming and PS4 is looking really good, if Xbox really has something planned, it better be bigger and better for the sake of their future. But this? This isn’t going to cut it.
