John Carmack doesn’t seem very convinced when it comes to the Steam OS, but acknowledges that Valve has done well over the years.
Speaking during Nvidia’s Montreal conference, Carmack admitted that he got it wrong when he questioned the Steam distribution platform all those years ago, but he said that he doesn’t think that Valve will be experiencing a repeat of that success.
I’m afraid that I may be at that same point right now where I’m like, ‘Making your own sort of little console OS? Are you crazy?’ And, you know, maybe 10 years from now, they’re going to look like brilliant prophets again with it. But it still seems a little bit dicey to me, getting everything moved over to Linux, pushing from that side of things.
Valve has a pretty solid track record, so let’s see if it really is all “dicey” in the end!
