British supermarket Tesco sees an increase in entertainment market share thanks to GTA V

During the first two weeks of the Grand Theft Auto V launch, Tesco were responsible for one third of all the sales, according to The Grocer.
The huge interest has meant that Tesco managed to increase its entertainment market share from 11.9% during the 12 weeks ending September 30th last year to 17.1% during the same period this year. That is a pretty heft rise considering Asda only went up by 2.3% and Sainsbury’s and Morrissons stayed where they were.
Kantar strategic insight director Fiona Keenan stated that “Tesco has been the big winner.”
Tesco has been the big winner of the release of GTA 5. Asda and GAME also benefited, both growing their shares compared with last year.
Keenan has also noted that GAME and Amazon are leading the way in the PS4 and Xbox One pre-orders, which is to be expected.
