9 year old brings gun, knife and hammer to school after playing Minecraft

In a strange scenario that might be a first for Minecraft, but a is all too familiar in the video game realm – a nine year old Florida boy has been sentenced to home confinement after he was caught at school with an unloaded handgun, a magazine with six bullets inside, a steak knife and small-handled sledge hammer. School officials at Endeavor Elementary School in Hunter’s Creek, Florida said the boy had been reported by some of his classmates after he told them before school that he had the weapons and a school resource officer isolated the boy and seized the items.
According to the boy’s Father, he was playing a character he learned from the video game Minecraft and was quoted as saying, “They use hammers to dig and knives and guns to protect themselves from zombies.”
The boy was charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds, possession of a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm by a minor.
At this time there is no word if the boy had installed mods to include firearms in the game, or if the Father was confusing hammers with pickaxes. Or, maybe the young student was running the Tekkit installer. Regardless, a judge ordered the boy to home confinement and said his parents need to keep any and all weapons away from him.
It is unclear whether or not the boy is still allowed to play Minecraft.
